I found this while scrolling through reddit. This is going to be an excellent resource for practicing on dynamic posing. I went and scrolled through a "class" just to see what it's like. I like that. A lot. Especially for figure drawing. I'm going to have to bite down on that bullet and practice realism and proportions eventually.
I'm unsure if I'll sticky this post but for now I've made it and I'll add other art related resources here in the future.

You don't have to if you hate it. Some artists never do, and focus on things like surrealism or abstracts. But if those are things you want to learn, then dynamic poses can help. Other good ideas:
* Study anatomy. Figure drawing makes SO much more sense when you understand what the muscles and bones underneath are doing.
* If you want to study art fundamentals, check out Drawabox. This free course shows you how to level-grind your way through the basics. Tedious but effective.
* Explore gesture sketching. It's a good warmup exercise as well as a way to capture poses quickly. Look at the difference between a 5-second sketch and a 3-minute sketch. Some websites will serve you a set of images with different timespans in "class mode," so you can practice different lengths.

This is very true, thank you for this reminder as well. I tend to forget this sometimes.
Thank you for those resources! I'll be adding them to my post. :D
Re: Thoughts
Date: 2024-11-20 10:49 am (UTC)There are countless reasons for art. Not all of them even require it to be technically "good," and some things which require minimal skill are both attractive and useful. But if you want to pursue skill, you can pick any aspect of art that interests you and focus on it. Gesture sketching is popular, but so is learning to mix colors to match a target. Do what you find inspiring or satisfying.
